Coity Wallia

Found these two on a dragonfly walk around Coity Wallia today - is this Leptopterna dolabrata?
And is this attractive caddis Mystacides niger?
Apologies for the quality of the photos - my only excuse is that it was very windy...

  1. I've seen these 'longhorn' caddis on the banks of the canal and moat at Cardiff Castle. Mystacides azurea is very similar to M. nigra but I don't think they can be separated without dissection. Lovely little thing though.

  2. The bug looks a good match for the brachypterous female of that species.

  3. Sorry to gatecrash this thread, but I'm not sure how to post on this blog. I can't see an icon next to it or anyone to ask for permission? Any advice appreciated!
