Oak Galls

Came across these whilst strolling through the Coryton interchange. I'm fairly sure the first is a Common Spangle oak gall, but is the second an Oak Apple gall or an Oak Marble gall ? Grateful for any guidance on this - it was still attached but fell off when I touched it. There are no exit holes that I can see.

  1. It's a marble gall - oak apples are generally larger and less regular in shape (also, they are more obvious in early summer when they are freshly formed). You can often find 5+ gall species on a single oak tree at this time of year...a good source of biological records.

    1. Thanks George. I took this one home with me, so what are the chances of the wasp emerging ... or is it too late ?
