Creeping thistle disease.

Following on from Marks post, I noticed many
Thistles infected on Mynydd bach, Maesteg today.
This is one of three images I took and I estimated
that around one in eight plants were affected.

  1. Interesting. I haven't seen any apart from at the Pwll Waun Cynon site, but we really aught to make a note of these occurrences, just in case the data will be of some use in the future. I just wish there was somewhere to report them to.

  2. Is there any possibility they have been sprayed with herbicide Paul? I know that some hebiciodes can cause that kind of bleaching.

  3. I doubt it very much Adam. These are growing on disused slag heaps and would have to be sprayed by hand due to the terrain. I never see any farmers up there either.

  4. The symptoms look spot on for White Thistle disease and I know that Martin Bell has seen it in a few sites, locally. No doubt, it will, given time, be present in just about every population of Creeping Thistle.
